Wai-O-Tapu | Thermal Wonderland Rotorua, New Zealand.

PHOTO Tour! Upon arrival to Wai-O-Tapu you receive a guided map you can take with you as you walk around the marked posts of the Geothermal Wonderland. There are pathways you walk on and around to see all the spots throughout the map. There are three locations you drive to, the Main park, the Lady Geyser, and the Mud Pools. Champagne Pool (Thumbs Up)

Sculptured out of volcanic activity and thousands of years in the making, Wai-O-Tapu is considered to be New Zealand’s most colorful and diverse geothermal sightseeing attraction. Once you get past the heavy sulphur smell it's really something to take in and see.

Wai-o-Tapu Mud Pools (Thumbs Up)

This was the site of a large mud volcano which was destroyed through erosion in the 1920’s. It now represents one of the best opportunities to experience the unique character and sounds of erupting mud in New Zealand. Our video highlights the mud bubbles erupting more than the photos but very cool and something to see. Take a look as well at the photo below which explains the Science of Mud!

Lady Knox Geyser (Thumbs Up + Down)

At 10:15am each day there is the opportunity to learn the history and mechanics of the Lady Knox Geyser during a presentation by an informed guide in the natural amphitheatre.It provides a unique opportunity to see a geyser in eruption to heights of 10 to 20 metres. Is it cool to see, yes? It's a little predictable when you see the photo below of the nudge they give it and how it erupts daily at the same time. If you don't make it there early enough, no sweat you aren't missing that much, but the rest of the park and wonderland area is worth checking out!
